Simple Fourth Of July Dessert.

We just shared this recipe over on our Facebook page, and thought we'd share it for our blog readers as well. It is a super easy dessert that you can throw together at the last minute. We used a white cake mix. Where the recipe called for one cup of water, we replaced it for one cup of milk. Fresh blueberries and raspberries give us the necessary patriotic color combination as well as a dusting of powdered sugar. We drizzled some simple syrup over the top of the cake. Equal parts water to granulated white sugar. Boil it on your stove top and let it reduce some. Making your own whipped cream from heavy whipping cream is not nearly as intimidating or time consuming as it may sound. And the flavor difference from whipped cream that comes out of an aerosol can or frozen in a plastic tub is remarkable.
