Cinco De Mayo

From our years of living in South Carolina where we were surrounded by the Hispanic culture, we started celebrating Cinco De Mayo every May. Whether it was going out to El Cerro Grande for guacamole and margarita's or to ordering tacos into our little flat in Hong Kong, we celebrated. 

This year we decided to invite seventy of our closest friends over to our tenth floor apartment to help us celebrate with a build your own taco bar. There were games. There was laughter. We broke the blender making margaritas. And we had a good ole time! 

I ordered the pinata off of the Chinese website equivalent to the American version of Amazon called Taobao. I made streamers from crepe paper and cut simple patterns into the different colors. A quick trip to the flower market to purchase succulents helped tie the whole look together.

Happy Cinco de Mayo to you! Whether your celebration is big or small, it's always a good time to get together with friends. To eat some chips and salsa. And to drink some tequila! We wanted to share some easy ways to add holiday touches to your party table.

Of course an authentic Mexican sombrero contributes a lot to your party display. Fresh peppers and chiles,  which are iconic ingredients used in salsa recipes are a great alternative to fresh floral arrangements. We used empty salsa and chile cans as vases for our display. These would look great with succulents or cacti planted in each can.

Using bright primary colors add a lot to the fiesta style of your Cinco de Mayo party. Color. Color. Color. We can't seem to stress that enough. To really put you and your guests in the mood, make sure to have your favorite Mariachi music playing in the background.
