Butterfly Birthday Party.

We had the opportunity to design a Butterfly Birthday Party for one sweet little girl who was turning three. To cover our tables, we used painters drop-cloths that can be purchased at Lowe's. We then layered burlap on top to give our tables more depth. My assistant went out into the woods with chainsaw in hand and cut me stumps that we then turned into serving stands for our desserts. The stumps really added so much to the general woodland feel of the event.

We love creating events on a budget. Real parties for real people. One way we like to keep our client's budget in mind, is to look around us to see what is available to us through nature. These beautiful white wild flowers are growing all over the side of the roads here in Myrtle Beach. The morning of this event, you could see us in our garden boots cutting these little flowers by the handful. Even the small jar of yellow flowers were growing wild, and gave our table a nice little pop of color.

Large ferns from Southland Nursery and Landscaping, flanked both sides of our dessert table. For this party we not only created butterflies out of fabric and wire, but we also covered a few butterfly forms we already had. We used vintage pink and yellow fabric. Some of the fabric came from dresses we picked up at the second hand store, that we cut and repurposed. Woodland creatures like rabbits and a toad also made an appearance on our table!

Butterfly Birthday Party - The Food.

We love small events. And since this specific birthday party was small, we limited the menu for the guests to a small dessert table. Fresh fruit, particularly fresh berries, automatically lends a wonderful vibe to any woodland party. We used waffle cones and filled them with blackberries, raspberries, granny smith apples, and strawberries. We fell in love with strawberry topiary's the first time we saw them at a cousins wedding. Since then, we've enjoyed incorporating them in a few of our events as well.

Trail mix is a unique food item to add to a woodland party, since it includes various nuts and dried fruit. We found our grocery stores carrying these cute Butterfly Cakes made by Little Debbie. These cakes offered a great pre-made/store bought food choice, to help cut down on the amount of work we needed to put into the party! We did make our own from scratch chocolate chocolate chip cookies that we served as well. Little "acorns" made from vanilla wafers, a chocolate chip, and a Hershey kiss also lent to the theme of the woodland event, and were a guest favorite. We asked a close friend of ours to make the raspberry macadamia nut cheesecake, and that was my personal favorite of the dessert table!

Butterfly Birthday Party - The Cake.

This was such a sweet cake to put together. We had the help of a special assistant - the birthday girl's godmother. She created the little fairy to resemble the birthday girl, and the other fondant pieces we placed on the cake. Pink toadstools topped with glitter lent a whimsical note to the cake.

Butterfly Birthday Party - Little Details.

Designing any event is all in the little details. In the spring, we picked up little toadstools and garden gnomes. Placing them in random plants was a fun surprise for the kids. Since the birthday celebrant was turning three, we created a special frame covered in butterflies. Wire butterflies that we picked up at thrift stores were a fun find as well.

Butterfly Birthday Party - The Kid Table.

We set up a special table for the children. Originally the party was to be held outside, but here in Myrtle Beach it rained for several weeks straight. That meant muddy yards. I could just image what both the lawn and the kids would look like by the end of the two hour party. As a result, we brought the party inside and created smaller eating spaces for the children that attended.

We picked up fairy wings from Target and recovered them to go along with the feel we were trying to create for the party. Each girl also received a matching skirt to wear with her wings. We gave out puzzles to each child as party favors and used strips of material as the ribbon. Gluing butterflies to the packaged tied it all together.

What woodland/fairy/butterfly party would be complete without pixie dust? And of course each pixie got their own wand as well.

Butterfly Birthday Party - The Drinks.

For our butterfly party we served "Pixie Potion". In reality it was just pink lemonade. We added detail to the drinking straws by gluing butterflies on them. Our adult guests drank out of the classic mason jar.

While walking through Michael's one day, I noticed this cute wooden butterfly. I immediately knew it would be perfect to hang from our drink carafe. We painted it white, attached fabric that we used throughout the party decor.

Butterfly Birthday Party - The Visitors.

There were woodland creatures at our butterfly birthday party. Of course the girls were all dressed as fairy/butterflies with costumes we personally hand crafted and sewed. And to include the male guests that attended, we created woodland costumes for each one. Pictured below is an owl, a gnome, and a raccoon.
